One result of the Monsanto’s near-monopoly in the seed market is a dramatic increase in genetically modified crops. If a farmer’s crop is tainted by a neighboring GMO crop, there’s often a lawsuit from Monsanto, leaving it nearly impossible to be Monsanto-free.
It’s nice that our government has giving a go-ahead for voluntary GMO labeling, but it’s truly not good enough. Monsanto keeps excellent track of their GMO seeds. Why can’t the government, too?
